I've been looking at the background of Branden Spikes, the senior member of DOGE who is director of IT over at X (his OG email is [email protected]).

Prior to joining up with Musk, Spikes ran a company called Spikes Browser, which tried to create a sandboxed browser environment. I met Branden in DC in 2013, and I actually used Spikes for a short while.

It seems that Branden used to be married to a woman named Natalia Haldeman (she went by Natalia Spikes then). Records published by ProPublica show that Ms. Haldeman is the CEO of a nonprofit called the California Russian Foundation.

When I search in the breach tracking service Constella Intelligence for spikes.com, I find tons of Yandex profiles for people in Russia who have spikes.com email addresses (all [email protected]).

Going to keep poking at this.

edit: corrected name of the foundation.

@q This happened to an infosec friend. They spent 2 weeks in detention, most of it solitary, and his employer had to pay both for an immigration lawyer and a bond for them to attend immigration court if/when a date becomes available. Oh, and they had to pay the private company running the detention centre for bed and board. They got on a plane back to the UK and never returned and an immigration court date was never set.

I don't know what the system is supposed to be achieving, but it is working more like state hostage-taking. Given this and other issues, I do not travel to the USA without diplomatic protection.

Global progress for biodiversity! 🌍🌱

Elephants, orangutans, leopards, and whales—some of our most endangered species—are vital to ecosystems. Protecting them means protecting life itself.

At COP16 in Rome, global leaders committed to swift action on biodiversity:

✅ A roadmap for funding beyond 2030
✅ A new monitoring framework
✅ A review process for COP17
✅ The Cali Fund to support biodiversity-rich nations & Indigenous communities
