#WritersCoffeeClub 1/12: Do characters use words not in the language you write in? Italics for this, or not?

I think italics are primarily for emphasis. But: A pretentious character might drop French words into their speech, which would be emphasized. In narration, it depends. My first manuscript involves a Hungarian-American woman visiting the country for the first time in decades, and struggling with vocabulary. I italicize some of those words, depending on how naturally they come to her.
