@jeffjarvis I look to the word root myself. "Civil" comes from the Latin "civilis," which comes from "civis" or "citizen." If someone is not behaving like a citizen -- meaning standing firm against autocratic and corrupt elements or hatred, intolerance, and bigotry that represent the very antithesis of "civil" -- then there is no reason to be civil towards them. If they do not behave like a citizen, there is no reason to be civil towards them.
