seen a few articles talking about people are scared. some scared of real threats, others scared of imaginary threats.

I think equating those two scenarios under the broader "fear" category is not useful.

because, when afraid, a person will choose either inaction or action to address the threat.

for real threats:
- inaction is dangerous
- action is useful

for imaginary threats:
- inaction is ok
- action is dangerous

these are different taxonomies, so the scenario does matter to the outcome.
